Sophia the Great
(Every girl is the princess of her house)
Sophia the Great is a lovely and sweet bilingual children’s book. Sophia lives in a white house in Encino, California. She is an energetic little girl, with a huge imagination. She believes she is a royal princess that lives in the White Oak Castle in the Kingdom of Encino. One day, she finds an enormous mountain lion in the castle’s forest and strikes a friendship with this creature. She learns that his name is Roberto Gato, which translates into English as Bob Cat.
The illustrations in the collection are beautiful and imaginative and the dialogue is in both English and Spanish. In fact, the author insisted that the pictures of the book be equally as important as the text. Sophia the Great would not have its quaint and precious feel without those pictures on each page. The illustrations perfectly depict the words of the story to bring to life each step of the journey.
Sophia the Great is a delightful read for both adults and children.
The 5 book collection provides much opportunity for children and early childhood educators to promote acceptance and tolerance, as well as to learn the name of things we find in our everyday lives, in both English and Spanish.
